More Than a Website: Why Ongoing Website Support Matters

Why My Clients Don’t Just Need a Website

More Than a Website: Why Ongoing Website Support Matters

Ongoing website support is one of the most valuable services I offer, yet it’s probably the one that’s hardest to explain.

A few days ago, one of my lovely clients sent me a message that completely made my day.

“What did I do before you came into my life? Thank you.”

It made me smile, not because I’d done anything extraordinary that day, but because it reminded me what my work is really about.

People often think I design websites.

Of course I do.

But that’s only the beginning.

What my clients really need is someone they can rely on as their business grows. Someone who understands their business, knows their website inside out, and is there to help when something crops up.

That’s what ongoing website support means to me.

Every Business Is Different

No two of my clients ever ask for the same thing.

Karen from Karen’s Holistic Haven is constantly dreaming up beautiful new ideas. One week we’re creating a new page for a mindfulness course, the next we’re designing flyers, posters, sign-up sheets and printed resources for an in-person workshop. Sometimes it’s website updates, sometimes it’s social media graphics, and sometimes it’s simply talking through an idea until it feels just right.

Jonathan‘s decorating business is completely different.

Some days he’ll message because he needs a new advert designing or magnets for his van. Other days we’re trying to untangle a Google account issue, investigating why reviews have disappeared, updating business information or solving one of those unexpected technical problems that always seem to arrive at the busiest possible moment.

Then there’s Lisa at The Wagtail Inn

Lisa spends her days looking after dogs, which means she quite rightly doesn’t want to spend her evenings worrying about her website. Every now and then she’ll send me a collection of lovely new photos, and I’ll update her website, write fresh content and keep everything looking active and welcoming while she carries on doing what she does best.

Every business is unique.

That’s why I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach.

It’s About Peace of Mind

When you own a small business, your to-do list never really ends.

There’s always another course to launch.

Another event to promote.

Another service to add.

Another photograph to upload.

Another social media post to create.

Another email that doesn’t quite make sense.

Sometimes you don’t need someone to redesign your whole website.

You simply need someone you trust to send a quick message to.

Someone who’ll reply with,

“Don’t worry, I’ll sort it.”

That’s the kind of ongoing website support I love providing.

More Than Web Design

Over time, I become part of my clients’ businesses.

I celebrate their new ideas.

Help them launch new services.

Refresh their branding as they grow.

Create graphics and printed materials.

Write content.

Solve technical problems.

Update websites.

Keep everything feeling fresh, calm and professional.

Their business evolves, and their online presence evolves with it.

A website should never feel like something that’s finished and forgotten.

It should grow alongside the person behind it.

A Calm Digital Tip

Open your website on your phone today and imagine you’re visiting it for the very first time.

Can you answer these three questions within ten seconds?

  • What do you do?
  • Who do you help?
  • How can someone contact you?

If not, don’t panic.

Small, thoughtful improvements often make a much bigger difference than a complete redesign.
